I don't like the idea of using a steroid cream that thins the skin and makes you burn in the sun easier.I've had hives for 6 days, but I'm not using the cortisone cream the doctor prescribed. It will go away right
Actually, steroid creams only cause significant skin thinning if you use them consecutively for a week or more.
Other things that may work for hives include over the counter antihistamines like Benadryl (but quite sedating), Allegra, and Reactine (both nonsedating). These are all type 1 histamine blockers. Interestingly, over the counter Zantac (normally used for acid reflux) is a type 2 histamine blocker, and when used in conjunction with Allegra or Reactine can provide additional relief for hives.
If you really don't like the idea of the steroid, you could ask your doctor for a prescription for Elidel which is a non steroidal anti-inflammation cream. Unfortunately it is quite expensive and does not seem to work as quickly as a mid to high potency steroid.
Hope that helps!

They may not go away. Either try an antihistamine (like Benadryl) or go back to the doctor and actually explain your concerns and ask for an alternative treatment. If you are ever prescribed something you are not happy taking then you should speak up.
Go to a metaphysical store and get the essential oil ';Lavender'; - it helps to ';seal'; the skin and help to heal it. Do NOT get the fake stuff, get the real deal.
